I've enjoyed making this block!  Loving the colours and the 3D effect. Even though that meant I had to make two extra blocks as I'd orientated the diamonds the wrong way, ruining any 3D illusion!! I considered ignoring it, walked away from it and made the two extra ones the next day... Live and learn :)  The red, flowery fabric in the background will go on the back of the quilt. I wanted my white/grey fabric to sew my tumbling blocks onto, but didn't have enough material.  I ended up choosing this one instead. It works ok I think.  This is the 'finished' (kind of) result, the picture isn't orientated the right way, the darkest side of the cubes will by at the top in the finished quilt. I've got one more block to make:   (drum-roll...) the Tangled Star...

The design choices with Drunkard's path are nearly endless!  In the end I kept it really simple, it hardly looks like a Drunkard's path! There happen to be 17 different fabrics in this quilt.  They are all in this block :)!

Claire's birthday came and went back in July .  I did warn her that my light bulb moment had come a bit late (after her birthday) and that it would take a little while to sort out.  She had seen O's 'all boy' quilt and Martha's play mat and liked them both.  So why it took my brain so long to put one and two together I don't know!  Eventually realising she'd love something that combined Cath Kidston fabrics with a cottagey feel I started looking for the right things.  So I had to confess it might be a while before she got her birthday present. It was such fun looking for fabrics, putting it all together and thinking of steering away from 'just' squares and coming up with something I hadn't tried before.  I love some of the designs on this blog and often have a little admiring look around.  One day I want to be able to make such gorgeous designs! I love making presents for new babies.  I often wait until after the birth to choose the colours, the pattern and fabrics.  Often the gift isn't ready for a good few weeks after the announcement reaches our house.  This time it's a little bit different.  I've know for a while what this August baby is going to receive.  The fabrics were carefully selected last week - you would not believe how much time I can spend fabric shopping .  It is more or less finished, thanks to a sunny afternoon and Owen happily playing in the garden.  I sat down at the kitchen table with a cuppa, one eye on the garden and now most of this little gift is finished. I can't wait to hear what my husband's cousin is going to have - my money is on a girl, we shall see.  So, waiting (patiently?) for this August baby to be welcomed into the world and finish this off with some boy or girl detail!  To be continued! This was still a work in progress at the weekend... A couple of weeks ago we heard the great news that one of our friends had given birth to a beautiful baby girl called Martha.  I love the name and I think it sounds very peaceful and warm.  So anyway, here is the playmat I made.  I've enjoyed every minute making it and declare it all finished and ready to post this morning! Have fun sleeping, looking, rolling and playing my little one! And the most fabulous thing about it is?  That it can be machine washed and tumble dried - how cool (and ultra-practical) is that!?

A pretty little tin bought on holiday last week in Lyme Regis.  Inside it are ten 'clothes plasters' or iron-on applications.  This is the boy's one; it has a rocket, tractor, dinosaur, robot, shark, plane and other fun boy designs.  Perfect to finish off my little man projects. So this week I made an apron for O.  At two and four months he loves stirring cookie dough and very much needs a 'boy apron'.  I made him one out of my old, much worn pair of pale blue jeans. Just one of the legs was enough fabric to make it.  I let O choose which 'plaster' he wanted on it.  He was adamant it had to be the red rocket.  Good choice. I'm always a bit weary of how well these iron-ons will stick to the fabric, but these are great!  Anyway, the little apron is all finished.  It now hangs over one of the chairs in the kitchen, very much rejected by a toddler who's refusing to wear it, hmm. I started this project quite a while back !  This week has been all about finishing things off: the quilt, now the zoo basket.  Tick, tick, tick! This is for a very close friend of my sister-in-law.  This friend now lives in the States and her first baby is due any minute!  Boy or girl?  We don't know, so I've tried to keep it colourfully gender neutral (I'm not a fan of beige and all its shades). Last time I made them for Lucas' first birthday  and I'm still loving this zoo basket pattern from Maggie, check out her Etsy shop!   She's got so many cute patterns - I want them all! Zo begon het meer dan een maand geleden...  Op een avond in april lag de keukentafel vol met kleurige lapjes stof.  Onze kleine jongen zou een grote jongen worden en bij dat grote bed hoorde een lapjesdeken (dacht de mama).  Nu slaapt hij nog steeds niet in dat bed, want dat is blijkbaar toch niet zo tof - maar zijn lapjesdeken is eindelijk af.  160 lapjes puur kleur en jongensdingen! Vanmorgen zette ik er rondomrond het boordje aan.  Eerst met de naaimachine en dan de achterkant met de hand - leve de laddersteek, dat werkt altijd toch mooi af!  De achterkant is Amerikaanse muslin (katoen), de vulling is 80% katoen 'batting'.  Het was eigenlijk bedrieglijk veel werk dat dekentje, zo'n simpel ding uit grootmoeders tijd.  De lapjes aan elkaar zetten vond ik nog therapeutisch, maar door alle drie de laagjes stikken was niet om te lachen.  Zonder mijn nieuwe wandelende voet lag het hele boeltje ergens in de kast voor de volgende x jaa...

I'm still knitting... slowly - and have decided I'm going to try and sew a zip in it once all of the knitting is out of the way.  The truth is that I've been distracted by this little sewing project.  Hoping to finish most of this over the weekend.  It has taken me a while to choose the fabrics for it, but I think it will look cute when it's all done!

Enkele weken geleden kreeg ik drie zakken beddengoed met 'Aha, jij naait graag... daar zul jij dan iets mee kunnen doen!'.  Wel inderdaad! Ik maakte een tochthond  - een obscene 2m 80 lang - voor in manliefs 'kantoor/garage'.  Het stofje vond ik ironisch grappig en ik denk niet dat hij de roze flanel die ertussen zat geapprecieerd zou hebben. Het is dus een 'plain lazy' Tocht monster geworden: A couple of weeks ago I received three bags of fabric and bedlinen accompanied with:  'You sew so... then you can do something with these'.  Well yes indeed!   I made a draft excluder - it's an obscene 2m 80 - to go into my better half's 'office/garage'.  I thought this fabric was quite funny and I don't think he would have appreciated the pink flannel which was also in the bags. And so now we welcome the 'plain lazy' Monster draft excluder:

Bij ons thuis lopen er geen meisjes rond en dus maakt Frambooske niet vaak 'meisjesspul'.  Toch had ik zin om eens iets echt 'meisje' te maken - voor het vier maand oude dochtertje van vrienden. There are no little girls in our house and so Frambooske rarely makes 'girlie stuff'.  Still, I really fancied sewing something sweet, happy and summery for Lilly - our friends' four month old baby girl. Het patroon werd gekocht bij  Van Katoen  (al voor Kerst eigenlijk, maar met de feestdagen lag de naaimachine stil).  Dit patroontje doet goed de ronde in de blogwereld (en in the real world dus ook hé).  Ik zag dit kleedje hier en vond het zo'n leuk ding dat ik het ook wel eens wilde probeerden. En vandaag, op een stormachtige winderdag, heb ik een gaatje gevonden om dit zomerjurkje voor Lilly af te werken. Frambooske begint het nieuwe jaar met een nieuw speldenkussentje.  Losjes gebaseerd op de kaft van het  Zakka Style  boek, waarin ik wel graag eens zou snuisteren.  Gemaakt van turkoois vilt, een stofje van toen en op de achterkant een stoer karootje om alles mooi in balans te houden.  Het was ook de eerste keer dat ik me aan paspel waagde. Frambooske starts the new year with a new pincushion - I actually didn't have one yet!  The design is loosely based on the front page of the Zakka Style book, a book I'd really like to have a look in.  This little cushion is made of turquoise felt, some fabric from then , and tartan check on the back to balance everything nicely. Frambooske maakte ook een tweede versie, eentje met schattige eekhoorntjes erop.  Deze wordt weggegeven! In August we had a lovely family holiday in Wales.  It had been seven years since our last big holiday all together (in France).  My in-laws found a gorgeous farmhouse with fields around it to explore and the most amazing rope swing ever.  It was a week of sun, sea and magnificently intricate sandcastles.  There were Welsh cakes warmed up on the Aga and marshmallows in the evening on the BBQ after the boys had caught some fish.  We also spent a girlie morning pottery painting.  My painted tile sits behind the egg basket in the kitchen and I love it as it reminds me of that great holiday.  I thought today was a good day to share this little Scandinavian deer for the 'Home sweet home' initiative.  We are spending Christmas and Boxing Day all together.  It's the opposite time of the year, the middle of winter, but it's just as 'warm' and happy as that week in August! Het zwarte salsa rokje voor mijn (Engels) nichtje werd vorige week al afgewerkt.  Niet zo leuk: zwarte stretch stof dat als water van de machine en door mijn handen liep.  Ook zwarte boordstof, zwart garen, bah...  Strikte richtlijnen van de salsa juf dat het rokje helemaal in het zwart moest.  De stretchnaald redde de dag en ik stikte er stiekem toch een kleurig labeltje in vanbinnen. Nog voor de zwarte rok af was beloofde ik haar al een leuke, kleurige lente/zomer versie.  Dit rokje werd dus met hetzelfde patroon gemaakt en zonder stretch in de stof vloog dit van de machine in geen tijd.  De stof noemt Romance de Paris, van de plaatselijke stoffenwinkel.  De boordstof is een donkerolijf/grijs en er hangt ook een tof   'one of a kind visjes' labeltje in vanbinnen.  Het rokje zal ongeveer tot op de knie hangen en omdat er veel stof en plooitjes in zitten zal hij mooi hoog zwieren als ze rondjes draait.  Welk meisje draait er nu ni...

Als er een  nieuwe baby geboren wordt vind ik het altijd leuk om ook iets aan de grote zus of broer te geven.  Dit keer werd het een hondje voor Maud.  Paarse ribvelour aan de ene kant en een fleurig vlinderstofje aan de andere kant.  Het patroontje kwam uit een Engels naaiboekje voor zelfgemaakt speelgoed, maar ik heb in de tijd de titel niet opgeschreven en ben die dus ondertussen vergeten.  Dankzij het maken van het zoomandje weet ik nu ook dat je het laatste gat waar je de vulling doorsteekt mooi met de hand kan dichtnaaien: met een laddersteek - een eureka moment! Ik maakte het hondje al eens voor een andere grote zus - Marit - en die ging naar Belgie in de post.  Dat was voor ik wist dat je een laddersteek kan gebruiken en dat zie je wel een beetje aan haar hondje waar het labeltje zit.
