Block three & Grandmother's fan

Block three, my Card trick block, is all finished.


Well, not quite 'all finished', I'm ignoring the little matter of ironing, squaring, sashing and quilting.  None of them have had that fabulous, finishing off treatment yet.  For now my mind is drawn to block four.  I'm enjoying this Grandmother's fan!  It's so different from the last three blocks.  This time I'm re-using the orange batik again, the yellow spotty fabric I've had around for long time too.  The two fabrics for the blades are new and just gorgeous, I love a bit of Scandi!


I can't wait to get sewing!

Now another important part of the quilt came together last week.  I finally made my mind up and chose the fabric for the sashing and backing, woop!!  I'll show you a picture next time.  There was a lot of going back and forward with rolls of lovely, tempting fabrics, spreading out the blocks and taking pictures.  Lots of cups of tea and biscuits too.  I lost some pounds and gained some.  All worth it though and I'm glad I didn't wait until all nine blocks were finished.

Claire's birthday came and went back in July .  I did warn her that my light bulb moment had come a bit late (after her birthday) and that it would take a little while to sort out.  She had seen O's 'all boy' quilt and Martha's play mat and liked them both.  So why it took my brain so long to put one and two together I don't know!  Eventually realising she'd love something that combined Cath Kidston fabrics with a cottagey feel I started looking for the right things.  So I had to confess it might be a while before she got her birthday present. Summer quilting project - halfway

Halfway through the summer, already! Slow down! Also, halfway through the 'table runner' project.  That should say table runner s though as there were just enough half square triangles to make two.  They'll go across the table rather than lengthwise.  I can't wait to have them finished and dress the table :) That leaves choosing a backing fabric, buying some wadding and pondering about binding colours.  It means a little pause this week whilst that gets sorted.

Sunday morning bliss

Me and the boy are home alone this weekend.  We've been doing our own thing, going with the flow and letting the weather shape our days.  Yesterday was gloriously sunny but windy.  The washing dried on the line, I only had to rescue it once from a fierce downpour.  I love the sun, it gives me energy. The house got a mini spring-clean and O's toys and books have been sorted.  We went grocery shopping and I had some friends coming round for a catch-up and take-away in the evening.  It is only 11am and although it has been a lazy morning lots has already been done. There has even been some time for me to pick up the knitting project again.  The back is finished, I'm now working on the first half of the front - still loving this yarn and its colours!  It's a rainy day today, so there might be time to do some more later.  Me and O have refilled the log basket, he's such a good boy and likes helping with little chores.  The wood burner is lit, glowi
