Brugge / Bruges & Happy Christmas!
Een weekje naar het mooie Brugge, een weekje terug thuis in 'Belgenland':

A week visiting Bruges, a week back home in Belgium:
Bright Christmas lights, fresh chicory with salmon and North Sea shrimps, noisy cobbled roads, one-way traffic, cyclists risking their lives, warm waffles with chocolate sauce from the little shop on the corner, visiting a friend, looking at the boats and feeding the swans some bread, French speaking people and trying to speak French back to them, Saint Nicholas visits O, leg of lamb with rosemary, happy children playing on the slides, a cosy rented house with shutters and a dodgy lock, a high city wall stopping any WiFi escaping from the centre, a busy Christmas market with sparkly kitsch decorations and hot drinks to warm your hands on, expose O to the Dutch / Flemish language, slow moving tourists, having croissants and hot chocolate for breakfast, buying sewing supplies from the Veritas and Hema shops, mum's vol-au-vent, visiting grandparents, a velvety soft red wine and also - for once - pita from the Turkish takeaway shop.
Happy Christmas!
Beautiful! There really isn't anywhere like home, is there? One of my sisters-in-law works for the American branch of a company that is based in Belgium. She's visited the main office there several times, and she's told us about the famous waffle stands. : )
